Students Plus Program Highlight

IRC Students Plus Outdoor Adventure Club

The IRC and Outdoor Outreach have teamed up for the fifth year to offer Crawford High School students an Outdoor Adventure Club! The Outdoor Adventure Club enables students to expand their knowledge of San Diego County beyond the confines of their City Heights neighborhood and enjoy the great outdoors.

Our students build self esteem and grow as a group by practicing team-building exercises once a week on the Crawford campus. Students play games that build trust between club members and encourage a sense of unity among the members. Once a month we put these skills to practice on a weekend field trip.

Already students have braved the huge waves at Moonlight Beach while learning to surf and have also conquered the peaks at Dixon Lake on a rock climbing excursion. Later in the year we will be off to the mountains to hunt for fresh powder for some hiking and snowboarding.

The members of this club have put in great effort after school to keep their grades up and to show a commitment to the club. The students have overcome physical obstacles as well as personal qualms to truly experience outdoor adventures.
