Refugee Youth Program

Refugee youth affected by war and displacement have special needs and concerns as they adjust to life in Tucson. Many have not seen a classroom in years, and some have never had the benefits of formal schooling. Few can speak, read or write in English. The Youth Program at IRC Tucson confronts these obstacles by providing access to after-school tutoring, homework assistance and literacy training, as well as recreational activities to help children develop cultural skills, better assimilate and make new friends.
