The International Rescue Committee goes to crisis zones to rescue and rebuild. We lead refugees from harm to home.

The IRC in Seattle

The Seattle office of the International Rescue Committee provides the services and support needed to assist refugees, asylees and victims of human trafficking to rebuild their lives and become independent and involved members of the community.  Since 1976, more than 18,000 refugees from 35 countries have resettled in the Puget Sound region through the IRC Seattle. IRC staff and community volunteers provide these newcomers with furnished apartments, case management, job placement services, mentoring, language and literacy support and youth programs.

How you can help:

Volunteer and Internship Opportunities

There are many ways you can help newly arrived refugees adjust to life in the United States. Our volunteers and interns are vital to the services we provide. Please check out our current volunteer and internship opportunities to see how you can help.  The IRC Seattle holds monthly volunteer orientations at our office in Pioneer Square.  Orientations are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm and the following Friday at 1pm.  Please RSVP for an orientation at Seattle@theIRC.org or call (206)623-2105.

Donate Goods

Did you know that the IRC furnishes the apartments of newly arrived refugees largely with donated items? With the exception of new beds and dining room sets, most of these furnishings are good quality, gently-used items donated by generous members of the community. These donations mean that we are able to allocate more funds for programs and services that help refugees adjust to their new lives in the United States. Contact Emily Walsh at 206-623-2105 ext 110  or emily.walsh@theIRC.org for more information.
