Volunteer with the IRC in San Jose

IRC's goal is to help all clients to become self-sufficient within their first several months in the United States. The key to these families' success is community involvement. To help these refugee families to the fullest extent, IRC San Jose is looking for the following Volunteers:

  • English Tutors / Cultural Navigators
  • Fundraising Assistants
  • Volunteers with a truck who can help deliver furniture donations
  • Employment / Human Resources Consultants
  • Career Mentors in topics like Accounting, Construction, and Computer Technology
  • Translators for the following languages: BOSNIAN, PERSIAN, VIETNAMESE, SOMALI and other languages to English
  • Computer Consultants
  • Grant Research & Writing Consultants

The IRC is also looking for compassionate local professionals who would be willing to help out counterparts from around the world: doctors, engineers, and computer programmers and more who have been forced to flee their country due to war or ethnic, religious, or political persecution. Refugee professionals like these have arrived in the San Francisco Bay area to try to rebuild their lives, but they need local friends to help them fit into the American dream:

  • A female surgeon from Afghanistan came to the East Bay in need of advice. She had no certification or computer experience, but wants to return to medicine. An American woman with any medical knowledge could help her overcome that barrier.
  • A female former police officer from Sierra Leone...
  • A male thermoelectric engineer from Eastern Bosnia...
  • A female cartographer from Iran...
  • A male computer programmer from Iran...
  • Others need advice and friendship.

Donations may be tax deductible. If you would like to help, or if you have questions, please contact us. Thank you for your interest in helping refugees!
