Grove Career Based Training
|
The Grove Foundation, created by Intel's Andrew Grove and his wife Eva, has given the International Rescue Committee in San Jose (IRC) funding to invest in career building for recently arrived refugees.
Goal
The goal of the Grove Career Based Training program is to provide short-term career-based training to highly motivated refugees which will result in a significant increase in their earning potential and long term career success.
Candidate Assessment will be based on:
- Desire to excel in targeted career field,
- Track record of career building, and
- The primary existing barrier to the candidate's professional upgrade is cost of the career based training.
Typical Training Fields include, but are not limited to:
- Computer Aided Drafting
- Website Design
- Accounting
- Computer Repair / Maintenance
- Electrician
- Auto Mechanic
Training can be provided by community colleges, technical institutes and occupational centers that include job placement services. The candidate will be expected to identify an optimal training institute.
How it Works
- Pick up a Grove Career Training Program Application at IRC
- Complete the Application (incomplete applications will not be considered), including your identified career field and specific training needed, and return it to Jamal Al-Fakhouri, Resettlement Director
- IRC will contact you within three weeks to set up an interview
- You will be interviewed to assess your match for the program
- If you qualify, IRC will pay for the cost of the training
- You will need to submit to IRC pertinent information to help facilitate smooth transactions. All payments regarding the cost of the training will be made to the provider directly, not to you; and
- You will need to respond to IRC's inquiries regarding the progress of your training. You also will need to submit to the IRC copies any graduation certificates, diplomas and or degrees. You will also need to inform the IRC of any job upgrades resulting from the training.
