The International Rescue Committee in San Francisco (IRC-SF) administers scholarships funded by a grant from the Sarlo Foundation of the Jewish Community Endowment Fund.

This financial aid program is designed to help refugees, asylees and victims of trafficking, who recognize and make the best use of this scholarship opportunity, meet the cost of academic achievement so that they can complete their studies and achieve their academic goals.

 

Who is eligible?

Those who:

- Entered the U.S. As a lawfully admitted refugee, were granted political asylum, or were certified as a victim of human trafficking; and

- Live in the IRC-SF service area of the San Francisco Bay Area and Stanislaus County.

How do I apply?

What is the deadline for submitting an application?

All applications must be submitted postmarked no later than January 15, 2009 to be considered.

How much money will the scholarships provide?

Scholarships will range from from $1,000 to $5,000 per year.

Is this a one-time only scholarship?

No. You are welcome to re-apply each year.

May I receive a scholarship to attend any school of my choice?

Scholarships are available for all accredited colleges and universities in the U.S.

Do I need to be a full-time student to apply?

No. Part-time students are eligible.

Is there an age limit for applicants?

No. All ages are encouraged to apply.

How do you decide who receives a scholarship?

A lay committee reviews all applications anonymously then determines which applications get funded and at what level.

When will I know if I will receive a scholarship?

We will notify you by mail by the end of summer or early fall.
