The goal of services at IRC San Francisco is to assist refugees and asylees with becoming fully integrated, successful, and self-sufficient members of our community. To help clients prepare for entering the workforce, IRC provides assistance with language assessment and referral to English-as-a-Second-Language classes, review of skills and previous work history and experience, provision of job readiness training, and assistance with locating employment.
Refugees and asylees can also enroll in our Matching Grant Employment Program.
Funded by foundations, corporate and individual donors, and the Office of Refugee Resettlement of the Department of Health and Human Services, the Employment Program aims to move refugees and asylees into paid jobs as quickly as possible. Each year, the IRC helps around 150 individuals with employment training, transportation vouchers, cash assistance, and assistance with purchasing work uniforms and supplies through this program.
IRC San Francisco has developed relationships with local employers who have tapped into the highly diverse workforce of refugees and asylees. IRC staff can provide support in the form of assessment visits to determine an employer’s needs, screening and referral of qualified IRC clients for employment, assistance with employment documents, and advice on managing a culturally diverse workplace. All IRC clients have work authorization, and are dependable and motivated workers.
