IRC's Charlottesville Programs

English as a Second Language - ESL tutoring is provided in a variety of ways: On-site classroom instruction for new arrivals five days per week,  Volunteer tutors matched with each new refugee arrival, Jobsite ESL, and Assessment and referrals to mainstream ESL programs at the Adult Learning Center. 

Family Support - Child-centered services such as individual and group counseling, child enrichment activities, and school liaison.

Immigration Assistance - The IRC represents clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), monitors case progression, and responds to USCIS inquiries effectively.

Community Interpreter Service - The IRC provides trained foreign language interpreters to local hospitals, schools, agencies, and courts.  If you are an agency needing an interpreter, please contact Sarah Burke at Sarah.Burke@theIRC.org or 434.979.7772. 

Refugee Employment - The IRC helps each client to find his or her first job and provides assistance in upgrading their jobs.

Resettlement & Placement- Our casework team works tirelessly to ensure that refugees are successfully integrated into the community.  They provide ongoing assistance to clients as needs arise.
