The International Rescue Committee goes to crisis zones to rescue and rebuild. We lead refugees from harm to home.

The IRC in Boise

Welcome to IRC Boise!  Since opening our doors in 2006,  nearly 800 refugees from Burma, Bhutan, Iraq, Burundi, Congo, Togo, Liberia, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have received assistance with housing, school enrollment, family budgeting, English language and literacy. IRC Boise also offers job readiness and placement services to help refugee families become self sufficient within the first few months their arrival.  Additional programming to help newly arrived refugees adjust to their new community include Women’s Life Skills and Literacy and Youth Programs.

Get Involved With IRC Boise

Volunteer:  To efficiently assist refugees with their transition and cultural adjustment upon arrival, IRC Boise depends on the community and dedicated volunteers to regularly give their time, energy, patience and skills to mentor refugees.  You are invited to become a part of IRC’s life saving work by mentoring or by teaching English to a family. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator Joanie Calder at joanie.calder@theIRC.org  to schedule a volunteer orientation session and learn how you can get involved assisting refugees.

Donate:  Deliver hope to newly arrived refugees. Help them to rebuild their lives by providing them with basic necessities such as toiletries and diapers, household items, linens, toys, computers, OR by making a cash donation.

The IRC is consistently ranked as one of the top charitable organizations because of the efficiency and quality of its programs.  Of every $1 the IRC spends 90 cents goes to programs and services that directly benefit refugees.

Community Events:  Please join IRC Boise on Thursday June 18th, 2009 at 7:00 pm for the screening of the film Betrayal (Nerakhoon) at the Flicks Theatre located at 646 Fulton St.

Filmed over 23 years, Nerakhoon (The Betrayal) is an epic story of a family's journey from war-torn Laos to the mean streets of New York.  Thavisouk Phrasavath narrates this deeply personal and poetic memoir of himself as a young man struggling to survive war and life as an immigrant, revealing the hidden, human face of war's collateral damanage.   Tickets are $10. To read more on the film please visit http://www.thebetrayalmovie.com/

Please contact Keziah Sullivan at keziah.sullivan@theIRC.org to reserve your ticket.
