Who are Asylees?
Asylees are individuals who have a well-founded fear of persecution in their home country and have been granted political asylum in the U.S. Asylum seekers prove their case to immigration officers and courts. Once asylum is granted, IRC offers assistance to asylees through our Asylee Program, providing case management services, cash assistance, employment assistance, medical screenings and other benefits.
How Does IRC Assist Asylees?
The IRC assists refugees, asylees, victims of trafficking, special immigrant visa holders and Cuban and Haitian parolees.
Asylees are eligible for assistance through the Match Grant Program, TANF or the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Program. The majority of asylees are enrolled in the PPP Program. This program recognizes employment as the key to successful integration and self-sufficiency. The PPP program provides cash assistance and social service assistance for singles and childless couples residing in: Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Harford County and Howard County. The Match Grant program and TANF program covers asylees with children.
If you have been granted asylum in Maryland, please call Beyenech Taye (410) 558-3169 or Rabi Poudel (410) 558-3166 for assistance.
