Afghan Dinner to Benefit IRC Atlanta

May 4 Afghan Dinner a Success

On Sunday, May 4, 75 diners enjoyed a delightful evening of Afghan cuisine, music and good company in benefit of IRC Atlanta. IRC partnered up with Voilà, a cozy restaurant located in the heart of Decatur, to create a delicious seven-dish dinner of Afghan favorites, as part of Voilà’s Chef du Jour program.

Chefs du Jour Honishka Adish and Masooda Omar, who designed the menu and cooked the dishes, both came to the United States as refugees from Kabul and now work for IRC Atlanta. The evening's guests were delighted with the family favorites Shor Nakhud (chickpeas with peppers and potatoes), Qabuli Palaow (perfumed rice over stewed beef), Burani Badenjan (eggplant, tomatoes and garlic), and Sheer Brinj (rice pudding with pistachios), to name a few. Proceeds from the evening benefit the programs and services of IRC Atlanta.

Voilà owner Donna Ruppert started this charitable dinner program in order to give back to the community. Says Ruppert, “Our ‘Chef du Jour’ program is a way for closet Chefs to leave their regular jobs behind for a day and have some fun while bringing attention to Decatur organizations that could use more community support.”

If you missed this year's event, just stay tuned: IRC Atlanta is already cooking up plans for which country to spotlight during next year's Chef du Jour international dinner.
