Established in Brussels in 2001, IRC Belgium serves as a representative office for the IRC global network in relation to European institutions. It provides support to other IRC affiliates and field offices on European Commission policies and procedures.

Key activities include: providing information and technical assistance; increasing the IRC's exposure among donors and European institutions; collaborating with relevant institutions, organisations and networks on advocacy and policy issues related to conflict-affected populations. It works also at strengthening access to new private and public funding resources across Europe.

Within the global network, IRC Belgium follows more particularly issues related to DR Congo, northern Uganda, violence against women in conflict or post-conflict settings, the Iraqi refugee and displaced person crisis and the humanitarian situation in eastern Chad.

IRC Belgium represents the IRC network in several European fora, such as: ECRE (European Council on Refugees and Exiles); VOICE (Voluntary Organisations in Cooperation in Emergencies); EurAC (European network for Central Africa); HRDN (Human Rights and Democracy Network) and in other, less formal, advocacy coalitions.
