The San Jose Office is now recruiting for two different internship positions:
Job Development Intern Description
The Job Development (JD) Intern will outreach to local employers to secure work for refugee job seekers.Activities include researching potential employers, contacting hiring managers, and developing long-term partnerships with companies hiring refugee job seekers. The (JD) Development Intern will participate in weekly meetings with the IRC Job Developer and Volunteer Coordinator to report progress.
The JD intern will also work one-on-one with refugees assisting with job searches, applying for positions electronically or in person, coordinating interview logistics, and creating resumes and cover letters.
Vocational ESL Intern Description
The Vocational ESL (VE) Intern will assist staff to coordinate the logistics for English classes, computer training, and tutoring to newly arrived refugees.The VE intern pairs volunteers with students and ensures volunteers have the applicable lesson plans for the client. The VE intern will coordinate with the ESL instructor to make sure that classroom topics are continued in the tutoring session. Other activities include ensuring refugees update their portfolios and job logs and volunteers complete hour logs and weekly evaluations.
The VE intern will also work one-on-one with refugees assisting with job searches, applying for positions electronically or in person, coordinating interview logistics, and creating resumes and cover letters.
Both internships require 15-20 hours per week for a minimum of 4 months. Internships are unpaid.
