Volunteer - Make a Difference Today

The IRC Bay Area depends on the work of our many volunteers. Volunteering with the IRC allows you to gain insight to the issues facing refugee populations from around the globe while simultaneously gaining valuable experience working in a non-profit organization. We have many volunteer opportunities in our Oakland and San Francisco offices, including but not limited to:

In Oakland:

  • Mentor a refugee family to help them become more comfortable in their new lives.
  • Help refugees find employment by searching for job opportunities and preparing them for interviews.
  • Bringing refugees to the social services office, the hospital, or to school to enroll children.
  • Provide transportation for refugee clients as needed, and assist with donation pick-ups and deliveries.

In San Francisco:

  • Help the staff plan various special events.
  • Write grants to assist in our fundraising effort.
  • Volunteer at any of our single-day community events.
  • Research potential community partners in the Bay Area.
  • Increase public awareness for refugee issues.
  • Schedule engagements for refugee speakers.
