(February 2007) Violence in Darfur has increased dramatically in recent months. Hundreds of thousands of newly displaced people have sought refuge in overcrowded camps, joining the more than two million who have already been driven from their homes. IRC humanitarian affairs director Gerald Martone recently returned from Darfur and shared these portraits of courageous Darfurians--some of them new arrivals and some of them facing their third year in the increasingly insecure camps.
