Desperate Conditions, Aid Groups Expelled
The Government of Sudan has ordered the closure of IRC humanitarian aid programs in Darfur as well as North and East Sudan – a decision that puts at risk the lives of 1.75 million men, women and children who depend on the IRC’s lifesaving programs.

The IRC is scaling up emergency humanitarian response in the North Kivu province of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo after intensified violence displaced an estimated 250,000 people.

The IRC has expressed concern about the worsening humanitarian crisis in Somalia and is responding to the rapidly deteriorating situation by providing urgent water and sanitation for tens of thousands of displaced people and the communities now hosting them.

Responding to Crisis
The gravest threat to human lives usually occurs in the initial stages of a major emergency. The IRC maintains an Emergency Response Team that can be deployed to the site of a crisis on 72 hours notice.
