An IRC partner since 1995, AIG recently made a major two-year, $600,000 commitment to guarantee that the IRC's Emergency Response Team is readily equipped to save thousands of lives in the first days and weeks of an emergency.
"Several years as an aid worker have proven to me that the ability to respond quickly, agilely, and consistently to emergencies - wherever they occur - is the key to saving lives. Forward-thinking donors like AIG allow us to activate our expertise during acute emergencies, as well as during lingering conflicts in less-often remembered places such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Northern Pakistan," said Alan Manski, IRC Senior Emergency Response Team Coordinator.
With support from AIG, the IRC is developing a central transport hub in Dubai to expedite the dispatch of emergency materials to Africa, Asia, and Europe. Over the next two years, the IRC will enhance its capacity to procure and deploy materials in the immediate aftermath of emergencies, while building an alliance of exceptionally capable emergency responders through cutting-edge trainings and information sharing methods, including innovative data collection with handheld personal computers (PDAs).
AIG's support will help prepare the IRC's Emergency Response Team to conduct essential rapid assessments, plan emergency responses, and initiate emergency services to the most vulnerable populations in the world, saving the lives of tens of thousands of refugees worldwide.
