Boise, with its affordable housing, good job opportunities, and welcoming community, is an optimal city for refugee resettlement. IRC’s Boise office, which opened its doors in January 2006, expects to resettle 110 refugees this year. Its main mission is the successful resettlement of refugees fleeing persecution from around the world. Upon arriving in the United States, refugees face overwhelming challenges of having to learn a new language as well as facing financial uncertainty, anxiety and cultural adjustment. IRC is committed to restoring dignity and self-reliance for these new arrivals.
Freedom Dinner - October 18th, 2008
The International Rescue Committee in Boise will join the rest of IRC family in marking 75 years of restoring dignity and hope to millions of people whose lives are profoundly impacted by war, violent conflict, oppression and natural disasters each year. We welcome you to join us at Barber Park Events Center on October 18th starting at 6:00 pm for a dinner fundraiser and art auction to celebrate this remarkable journey.
Since opening doors in Boise in 2006 IRC Boise has assisted over 500 refugees from Burma, Bhutan, Iraq, Burundi, Congo, Togo, Liberia, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan with housing, school enrollment, family budgeting, English language and literacy. IRC Boise also offers job readiness and placement services to help refugee families become self sufficient within the first few months their arrival.
The goal for the dinner and auction event is to raise $30,000. Your support as a corporate sponsor or an individual will ensure our success. The event provides an ideal sponsorship opportunity for those seeking to make an impact locally on one of Boise’s most vulnerable populations. This is not a typical fundraiser – it is an informative and moving testament to refugees who have endured persecution and are working diligently to rebuild their lives and contribute back to the community that supports them. You may purchase a sponsorship and dinner tickets on-line by clicking here. Volunteering IRC's volunteer program needs you! Please contact our Community Outreach Specialist Keziah Sullivan at keziah.sullivan@theirc.org to schedule a volunteer orientation session and learn how you can get involved assisting refugees. Donations Deliver hope to newly arrived refugees. Help them to rebuild their lives by providing them with basic necessities such as toiletries, household items, linens, and clothing OR by making a cash donation.
The IRC is consistently ranked among the leading charities by publications such as Smart Money, Consumers Digest, Money and Forbes. Of every dollar that IRC spends, at least 90 cents goes directly to refugee programs. All in-kind donations go directly to refugee families in need and are fully tax deductible.
