The International Rescue Committee goes to crisis zones to rescue and rebuild. We bring refugees from harm to home.

The IRC in Baltimore

The IRC’s Baltimore Regional Office opened in July 1999 and is one of the leading resettlement agencies in the Mid-Atlantic region, resettling approximately 400 refugees and asylees each year in Central Maryland.  Our goal is to assist newly arrived refugees achieve self-sufficiency by helping them establish a new home, find jobs as well as enroll in English and job training courses.  We help refugees regain control of their lives while enabling them to participate in their American communities and maintain their rich cultural heritage.  We resettle refugees in 6 Maryland counties.  The majority of IRC’s services are provided in Baltimore City, Howard County and Frederick.

Our office is located at the Baltimore Resettlement Center (BRC).  We work in partnership with Lutheran Social Services, Baltimore City Community College, Baltimore Department of Social Services and Baltimore Medical Systems to provide refugees with a unique opportunity to receive comprehensive resettlement services at one location during their transition.

We are currently in need of the following items (in good, working condition) to give to refugee families to help rebuild their lives:

  • Car Seats (for infants and toddlers)
  • Furniture (dressers, couches, desks)
  • Cribs and other baby items
  • Cars
  • Computers
  • New school supplies

Volunteer Opportunities

We are always in need of volunteers to mentor newly arrived refugee families, assist case managers and tutor English.  All positions are highly rewarding!  Learn more >
