The IRC in Guinea

Guinea, one of the world's poorest countries, has accommodated nearly one million refugees from the civil wars in neighboring Liberia, Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast. While most refugees from Sierra Leone have been repatriated, those from Liberia and Ivory Coast continue to live in Guinean camps due to instability in their home countries.

How We Help

Operating in Guinea since 1991, the International Rescue Committee has played an integral role in the care, maintenance and repatriation of refugees for over 14 years, and has established a strong presence in both refugee and host communities. We implement programming to benefit both the refugee and local communities in three primary sectors: education, protection and participatory community renewal.

The IRC provides vocational training to single mothers and other vulnerable refugees living in Boreah Camp in Guinea. This woman received training in tie-dying.
